Sociological Criticism in the “Be the Light” Song, One OK ROCK Band

Posted by with No comments

Based on the theory of sociological criticism in the literary approach, that literary work was born from the author's anxiety over the social conditions that occurred in his time, then meluapkan the anxiety in the form of creative like a song .. This work is made by an author with purposes display some important messages may rarely be found in society through any media. In addition, literature also has the function to create world offered in the work, some proponents of this theory hope that literary works can have usefulness in any form.
Born from this theory, the writer intends to analyze a literary work included in a song, from a band from sakura country, japan, ONE OK ROCK, with the title "be the light". Which partly inspired writers in looking at the world today.
Why is the author interested in writing this work? There are several reasons, firstly, this work is not contained in the nature of romanticism that has dominated the literary genre; secondly, this work alludes to all societies of injustice and oppression in the world today, war, murder and even poverty are told in this song in a language that must be assessed contextually and explicitly.
Being with the title "be the light", this song is fascinating to my attention, because the author believes that light is the principle of prosperity and happiness, enlightenment for the darkness that dominates today. The author will analyze this work with sociological criticism approach.
I started from the text of the song, the author finds a heart content that the songwriter really wants to convey. By observing the sociological conditions of the world, the songwriters find cruelty, sorrow and injustice to those who are in the oppressed class. Poverty and hunger are the daily gloomy scenery, such as the genocide massacre of the spirits, the seizure of the territory of power by israel in Palestine, witnessed by the whole world but they pretend to be blind, hear the screams of pain, the world feigns deafness, done by us today ?.
The author focuses on a hope brought by the songwriter. With the light, there is darkness in the world, so some of us have to be a light, a world that is in a colonized world without being packed in a more refined form (neoimperialism). Darkness for writers such as a hell-like condition, humans are no longer able to classify kindness and hypocrisy, because they are blind in the dark world.
Be light, this is the essence of the goal the author conceives for us to illuminate the dark age of today. No more can be expected besides us as future generations. The darkness out there is very strong and we need to unite the light from each of our hearts to fight it into a light that no longer sadness and tears.
